Langley Village Sketching

Whidbey Island Sketchers met at Langley Village this week. It's a beautiful place to sketch. Albeit somewhat cold this spring day, as evidenced by my drawing of the Langley Village couple below.

Here they sat soaking up what little sun shown through the clouds.

This Wisteria trunk was very interesting, yet once I started drawing got lost in the complexity.

Anticipation

Looking forward to my Tree Peony buds opening. This is the first year of blooming since I planted them a couple years back. One tree has quite a few. Considering their first year of blooming they produce only one, I feel blessed.
Here's a few sketches of the buds. I think I'm going to create a list to read prior to beginning a sketch or painting of things to keep in mind. #1 leave some whites for sparkle. I usually try but seemed to have forgotten in the case of the second image. Oh well. Paint and learn.

Hopping

In celebration of "things hopping," as a friend said, here's a sketch of a frog statuary at Bayview Farm and Garden. I had started this Wednesday and went back to finish yesterday before the rains start again. This was painted with my big #4 Raphael squirrel hair mop.

OM

A lovely, peaceful day for our sketch group to be drawing outside at Bayview Farm and Garden. Got in this lovely Buddha.

Useless, Prima and La Casita

A day of sketching in cafes and restaurants. It's so chilly here, our group of Whidbey Sketchers preferred to sketch indoors. I'm getting cabin fever and am looking forward to warmer weather for some garden sketching.

Sketchers sketching at Useless Bay Coffee Co. in langley.

We migrated to Prima Bistro for lunch.

We migrated, once again, to La Casita for cocktails.

In this sketch, my goal was to try to convey a sense of light from the lanterns. I also was working towards a loose impression.

Cultus Bay Nursery

What a spectacularly beautiful day for sketching outside at Cultus Bay Nursery. So many subjects to choose. Cows with a calf, sheep, an orchard, not to mention all kinds of nooks and cranny's with lots of character.

Later in the day we headed to Langley for more sketching and wine. These blossoms were outside the window.
